  • PSAT 2009
    PSAT 2009
    Wednesday, October 14
    2009-2010 juniors (current sophomores) wishing to take the PSAT must pay the $13.00 registration fee. Waivers are available for eligible students. Students may pre-register beginning today simply by adding their name to the list in Student Services from now until the end of the 2008-09 year (no money needed). Juniors taking the PSAT are automatically entered in the National Merit or National Achievement Scholarship competition. Fore more information about the PSAT, go to www.collegeboard.com . You may also email Ms. Williams at dcwilliams@wcpss.net to add your name. The registration fee will be collected beginning in August. Note: 2009-2010 sophomores are automatically registered for the PSAT and do not pay the registration fee. 2009-2010 freshmen will register and pay the fee in August

  • Lifetouch Pictures
    Lifetouch Graduation pictures can be ordered here.

  • AP Summer Assignments
    Summer assignments for AP courses next year are now posted to the school website. Be sure to check the information now to prepare for completing the course assignments. English III - Language and Composition materials must be picked up in Student Services.

  • Sports Physicals
    Triangle Orthopaedics has added a new location for May 30th Sports Physicals. For more information click here.

  • Interns
    ASVAB scores are available in Student Services. Internship presentations are this week. Review presentation dates and times on Blackboard.

  • Summer Programs
    Wake County Human Services in partnership with North Carolina State University Cooperative Extension is providing free summer programs for high school students in the area. Each Teen Summer Institute has a different theme but they all focus on developing leadership skills, social skills, healthy lifestyles, and academic enrichment. Click on the following links to find descriptions and enrollment forms for the various institutes. The deadline is Friday, May 15 or until the classes fill up.   • Free Enterprise Leadership Challenge
    Students in grades 9-11 who are interested in learning about free market economics and business may be interested in the Free Enterprise Leadership Challenge. FELC is a five day residential program held in June at Wingate University. The $75 registration fee includes dorms, meals, and activities. Interested students should go to: www.jessehelmscenter.org/programs/felc.asp .

  • Teen Educational Summit
    WCPSS middle and high school students and parents are invited to attend the Teen Educational Summit on Saturday, April 18 at 8am at Southeast Raleigh High School. Examples of student workshops at the Summit are: Dress for Success, Leadership, Drug Free America, Gang Prevention, School Violence, etc. Parent workshops are: Planning and Paying for College, Success in K-12, Advocating for Your Child. Lunch is provided, and the summit is free of charge. The Teen Fest finalists will perform. Information is available in student services.

  • The Southern Association for College Admission Counseling
    The Southern Association for College Admission Counseling (SACAC) is sponsoring a regional college fair that will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2009 at the Raleigh Convention Center from 3:30pm-5:00pm. The college fair is mainly geared towards sophomores and juniors and is free and open to the public. Admission representatives from a variety of colleges and universities around the southeastern region will be available to answer questions about their institutions. Attendance is taken very seriously at Wakefield High School. The staff and administration believe that there is a high correlation between attendance and achievement and that regular attendance is crucial to all students’ success. Wakefield High School will maintain accurate attendance information and will share this information with parents and students. It is extremely important for parents and students to closely monitor and document any school absences. More.

College Planning

Freshman will work with Student Services counselors in groups the week of November 13-17 to complete four year planning and career assessment on the College Foundation of North Carolina website (www.cfnc.org). We encourage parents to follow-up with their students to help them get off to a "fresh" start.
