WAKEFIELD HS SMART LUNCH
Students Maximizing Achievement with Resources and Time

What is it? A one hour block of time when all students and all staff members on the main campus are available to collaborate, remediate, and interact.

Why are we doing it? SMART Lunch provides time during the school day for students to get the remediation that many need in order to be successful in their courses. This gives them an opportunity to work more closely with their teachers and fosters good relationships. Students can use this time to get teacher help, make up missed assignments, meet with their counselors, increase extracurricular participation through clubs and intramurals, and build stronger relationships with staff members.

Locations for students:
Students ARE allowed in the main hallway past gyms, locker bays, outside courtyard area near trailers 1-8, basketball courts, and classrooms available for remediation. **Students should not be hanging out in the hallways or stairwells – they need to be moving to another location.

Students are NOT allowed at the middle/elementary schools, athletic fields (unless participating in Intramurals), weight room, auditorium, tennis courts, hallway between gyms or hallway that runs behind gyms that leads to trailers, or parking lot unless leaving campus (no hanging out there).

IDs
Students will be required to present their IDs to have access to SMART lunch activities. IDs must be accessible at all times. Students will need to show their IDs to leave campus, buy lunch, sign in to intramurals, and have access to the media center during lunch.

Activities:
Teacher remediation (each teacher scheduled 2 days a week – see schedule of days/times)

Make up missed tests or quizzes, get help on assignments, study, work on group projects, and other teacher directed activities. Students who need to serve Administrative detention hours will earn 30 minutes for each remediation session that they attend.
